knowledge and application of lighting (1) Basics of lamps and lanterns

Category:

1. Direct lighting

The light is emitted through the luminaire, of which 90%-% of the luminous flux reaches the hypothetical working surface. This method of illumination is direct illumination. Lighting has a strong chiaroscuro contrast, which can produce interesting and vivid light and shadow effects, and can highlight the dominance of the working surface in the whole environment, but due to the high brightness, glare should be prevented.

2. Semi-direct lighting

The semi-direct lighting method is to cover the upper part of the bulb with a lampshade made of translucent material, more than 60%-90% of the light is concentrated on the working surface, and 10%-40% of the lampshade is diffused upward through the translucent lampshade, and the light is soft. This type of lamp is often used for general lighting in lower rooms. Because diffused light can illuminate a flat ceiling and increase the height of the top of the room, it can create a higher sense of space.

3. Indirect lighting

Indirect lighting is a type of indirect lighting produced by indirect masking. 90%-% of the luminous flux is reflected on the work surface through ceilings or walls, etc., and less than 10% of the light is directly irradiated on the work surface. There are usually two ways to deal with it, one is to install an opaque lampshade at the lower part of the bulb and the light is reflected to the flat top or other objects, and the other is to set the bulb in the light trough and the light is reflected from the flat top to the indoor indirect light. When using this lighting method alone, attention should be paid to the shadows on the lower part of the opaque lampshade. It is often used in conjunction with other lighting methods to achieve special artistic effects.

4. Semi-indirect lighting

In contrast to semi-direct lighting, a translucent lampshade is installed in the lower part of the bulb, and more than 60% of the light hits the flat top, forming an indirect light source, and 10%-40% of the light is diffused downward through the lampshade. This creates a special lighting effect that makes the lower rooms feel higher. It is also suitable for small residential spaces, such as foyers, corridors, etc. This method of lighting is often used in learning environments and is most suitable.

5. Diffuse lighting

Diffuse lighting uses the refractive function of a luminaire to control glare and diffuse light to the surroundings. This kind of lighting generally has two forms, one is the reflection of the light from the lampshade through the flat top, the two sides diffuse from the translucent lampshade, and the lower part diffuses from the grille. The other is to use a translucent lampshade to turn off all light and create a diffusion. This lighting performance is soft, visually comfortable, and suitable for the bedroom.
