A few common ways to design interior lighting

Category:

With the continuous improvement of people's living standards, people's health awareness is getting stronger and stronger, and their aesthetic ability is getting stronger and stronger. Therefore, for interior decoration, reasonable and artistic lighting design is already indispensable. So, what are the more popular lighting methods nowadays? According to the author's many years of experience, I believe that there are several lighting methods for indoor lighting design: direct lighting, semi-direct lighting, indirect lighting, semi-indirect lighting and diffuse lighting. Below, we will introduce the meaning of each and the method of calculating illuminance.

A common way to design interior lighting

Interior lighting design

First, the more common, direct lighting

As the name suggests, direct lighting means that after the light from the lamp is emitted, 90%-100% of the luminous flux can directly reach the working surface, and the loss of light is less. The advantage of direct lighting is that it creates a strong contrast between light and dark in a space and can create interesting and vivid light and shadow effects. Of course, we must also admit that direct lighting is prone to glare due to its high brightness. For example, in some factory environments, there are also old classrooms.

2. Semi-direct lighting mode

Semi-direct lighting is one of the most commonly used in modern lighting design, which is to block the upper and side of the light source through a translucent material lampshade, so that 60%-90% of the light shines on the working surface, and the other 10%-40% of the light is diffused through the translucent lampshade, making the light softer. This lighting method will make the brightness of the lamp have more loss, and it is more edible in low-rise environments such as homes. It is worth mentioning that since the diffuse light of the lampshade illuminates the roof of the house, the height of the top of the room is "increased", which in turn creates a relatively high sense of space.

3. Indirect lighting mode

The indirect lighting method is very different from direct lighting and semi-direct lighting, which is to block 90%-100% of the light source through the ceiling or front, and only irradiate less than 10% of the light to the working surface.

There are two common methods of indirect lighting: one is to install an opaque (semi-direct lighting is to use a translucent lampshade) lampshade on the lower part of the bulb, and the light is reflected on the flat top or other objects as indirect light; The other is to set the bulb in the light trough, and the light is reflected from the flat top to the room as an indirect light.

It should be noted that if we use this indirect lighting method alone for lighting, we should pay attention to the combination of other lighting methods, otherwise the heavy shadow under the opaque lampshade will affect the display of the entire artistic effect. IntroductionLighting is often used in shopping malls, clothing stores, conference rooms and other places, and is generally not used as the main lighting.

Fourth, semi-indirect lighting mode

This type of lighting is just the opposite of semi-direct lighting, which is to install a translucent lampshade in the lower part of the light source (semi-direct lighting is to block the upper part and side), so that more than 60% of the light hits the flat top, and only 10%-40% of the light is diffused downward through the lampshade. The advantage of this type of lighting is that it creates a special lighting effect that makes the space with a lower ceiling height appear higher. Semi-indirect lighting is suitable for small spaces in the house, such as hallways, aisles, etc.

5. Diffuse lighting mode

This type of lighting uses the refractive function of the luminaire to control the glare and diffuse the light in all directions. There are generally two forms of this kind of lighting, one is that the light shoots out from the upper mouth of the lampshade and is reflected from the flat top, the two sides diffuse from the translucent lampshade, and the lower part diffuses from the grille. The other is to use a translucent lampshade to block all the light and produce diffusion. This type of lighting has soft light performance and visual comfort, and is mostly used in bedrooms, hotel rooms and other spaces.

Of course, a reasonable and artistic interior lighting design scheme must be inseparable from the combination of multiple lighting methods. Only by fully coordinating two or even more of these lighting methods can we achieve a certain artistic effect while meeting the lighting needs.

Postscript: Lighting design is not a selection of lights, it is a technical and artistic job, if you really don't have the time and professionalism to DIY lighting design, you might as well find a lighting designer!
